Sometimes I feel like we are being forced to do homework in martial arts. I don't appreciate that we have to do work outside of class. I already get enough at school. Sometimes it's hard to find time to track acts of kindness, environmental acts, training logs, etc. I understand why we have to do it, its just frustrating sometimes.
Andrea,
ReplyDeleteWhen I tested last year the side work you are referring to above took me about 15 minutes a day to keep up with. The best way to keep this going is to make it part of your daily routine. Pretty soon it will become a habit and just be part of what you do everyday.
Try to remember what "Attitude" is supposed to be demonstrating to you. How you look at things decides whether it is a problem for you or not. In other words if you see it as a problem it is negative and a problem. If you see it as an opportunity it is positive and hopefully something you can learn from.
This is really up to you.

Generations. The theme of *our* test. Generations of black belts have gone before you. Many have not had to do what we are doing. Their tests have been all about the physical, how well they can punch or kick. Our test is harder. Not only do we spend time training our bodies, we we spend time training our minds as well.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing we learn as we close our beginning classes is what Aim High is all about - to develop ourselves physically, mentally, spiritually. And to do this with good character. Just as we spend time training our body, we need to spend time training our minds and our spirits which we do by building others up and helping the environment.
The apparent "homeworkiness" of this comes in tracking our training in these areas. This tracking is for us to look back on as we take a look at the year behind us and to remind us as we go forward of the journey that has brought us to where we are. This journey is meant to build character. You will only make *this* journey once. You will be a different person on the other end of it.
Enjoy the journey. Take your pictures along the way recording what you are doing. Sit back at the end and think about your journey and share with others what you have been through.
